FEATURED DESTINATION

Sri Lanka

After many hours spent trawling through numerous other "How-To" guides on Sri Lanka, we ended up on the same route that pretty much everybody must take.

There are only the few stops here and there that may differ as well as the direction of the route that you travel on.

Some people decide to head to the south coast first and then make their way inland to the more activity-heavy stops but we thought we'd prefer to get the activities out of the way first so that we can spend are remaining days lounging at the beach or bobbing on the waves on a surf board.

This is the map of the route that we took around Sri Lanka. We'll also map out any tips for places where you'll want to stay longer as well as the places that you may want to pass through rather quickly...or not at all!

Negombo

Negombo is one of the less developed stops of Sri Lanka in terms of tourism infrastructure. That doesn't mean that we're adverse to that by any means but it certainly makes it a little more on the challenging side when travelling through here with young children...

Sigiriya

On many other travel blogs that we read prior to our stop in Sigiriya, a lot of them mentioned that this area holds some of the best hotels in the country and we can certainly see why they said that. The service that is provided is some of the best we've experienced...

Kandy

Oh Kandy...what can we say that is nice about Kandy?! I'm sure other people may love Kandy (for reasons unknown to us), but based on our experience, this was one of the "ok let's move on" places that we stopped at. The only reason we really stopped here is because...

Nuwara Eliya

Being British, we naturally love our tea, so of course we had to make a stop in Tea Country. Nuwara Eliya is renowned for its miles upon miles of tea plantations. This makes for some incredible views from pretty much anywhere in Nuwara Eliya...

Ella

Ella was probably our favourite stop on our route of Sri Lanka. We'd heard many contrasting opinions about some of the other stops of our journey but none about Ella. Everything that had been written about Ella were of the same opinion - they loved it...and so did we...

Mirissa

We're still of the opinion that we must have missed the "cool part" of Mirissa because we'd read a lot of positive things about Mirissa but when we were there...we didn't really know why. Even if you LOVE surfing, there's not really much else...

Unawatuna

Throughout our whole journey of Sri Lanka, we'd kind of been looking forward to just getting back to the coast and chilling out with the children in a cool beach town. Being perfectly honest, I think we felt a little bit disappointed with most of our stops...
